Bharti Teletech Ltd.
Bharti Teletech Ltd., a group company of Bharti Enterprises has been at the forefront of technology and has revolutionized telecommunications with its world-class products and services.

Established in 1985, Bharti has been a pioneering force in the telecom sector with many firsts and innovations to its credit, ranging from being the first mobile service provider in Delhi, first private basic telephone service provider in India, first Indian company to provide comprehensive telecom services in Seychelles and first private sector service provider to launch National Long Distance Services in India. As of May 31, 2003, Bharti had approximately 3.87 million total customers – nearly 3.47 million mobile and 401,000 fixed line customers.

Bharti manufactures and exports telephone terminals and cordless phones. Apart from being the largest manufacturer of telephone instruments, it is also the first telecom company to export its products to United States of America.

Challenges and Implementation
When Bharti began their search for a more efficient way to handle their process, they wanted a robust, low-cost and scalable platform to support shared E-mail, VPN and other intranet applications. Compatibility with existing platform was important because the Bharti was running varied platforms. Tetra being an IT consultantto Bharti recommended Linux server platform with associated applications. We also guided them with a seamless migration path. "Initially, we looked at many other major vendors, but the choice of Linux and its inbuilt application clearly stood out with its superior and proven performance," says GP Singh. "Our Team also found the Linux based server more reliable, secure and easier to configure than any competing O/S," he adds

Achievements
Multiple systems and Integration at an affordable price: Linux being so scalable that it can accommodate so many applications as in case of Bharti without loosing a bit of performance. So to say, on single Linux Server they are running E-mail server to support more than 1000 users and more that 10 domains, VPN functionality, Proxy server application, firewall, Band width Management etc. with out loosing performance as well as functionality. You can deploy more and more applications without having any hardware constraints.

Client Testimonial
"We implemented Supply Chain Management & Customer Relationship Management on Linux platform and achieved such a level of confidence about the reliability, scalability and security of the operating system that we shifted all our existing messaging setup on Linux. Now our messaging setup is such a redundant setup that my organization always remains a part of world as compared to my earlier setup. Lastly, I would say that I have achieved all the comforts for my users while spending very less as compared to other operating systems."
Gurinder Pal Singh, Dy. Manager (EDP), Bharti Teletech Limited

"Linux has tremendously successful in our corporate. We have not only deployed conventional services like Corporate Messaging, Web proxy, Firewall, E-mail, VOIP environments but also have our major and critical applications. Squid proxy with content management has been there to define our corporate Internet access policies even for the remote locations and VPN."
Neeraj Arora, Network Administrator, Bharti Teletech Limited
